I tested the Macintosh version. The Mac and Windows versions look and work exactly the same, with the exception of some System specific details. The Interface completely bypasses the main OS Interface, making it easy for users to feel at home with both. For a detailled review of Bryce for Windows, please visit Brycetech.

Bryce 5 Review

Corel Bryce (formerly Metacreations, prior to that HSC Software) is now in Version 5 and runs native in MAC OS X. It is a program for creating Virtual Environments, for animating those Environments and finally but by no means least: for creating the most beautiful renders, in my opinion unrivalled by any other 3D application I know. While it has not been designed as a modelling program, enthusiastic users do create "Pure Bryce" scenes: Landscapes, Interiors, Architecture, Still Life, Abstract, anything one can imagine, with everything created inside Bryce.

But it does not work like a modelling program. A different way of thinking is required. Users learn how to "think in Bryce" (M.Surges, Artist and Author), as opposed to thinking in 3D modelling. Modelling options available in Bryce 5 are Greyscale to Height (aka Heightfield Rendering), building models from Primitives (with sophisticated nested Boolean Operations) and Metaballs. For a comprehensive range of good Tutorials covering all aspects of this unusual approach (and Materials, Textures and much more), users should visit the Brycetech Site.
